No Agenda Producer Update-6th Anniversary!

Dear Producers and Supporters,   TODAY is the 6th anniversary of the No Agenda Show. You have to admit that it is “amazing” that a show like this is even being produced intoday’s era of controlled and censored media. It is not as if the mainstream media cannot give you real analysis and insightful nuanced observations. They simply choose not to because it is easier to entertain the public with vapid celebrity gossip and vacuous reports provided by the massive public relations mechanisms that promote corporate and government messages.   The No Agenda Show is completely removed from this onerous influence because and only because you, the producer and consumer, pay the bills. We do not depend on “underwriters,” sponsors, advertisers, whatever you want to call it. You pay the bills. You make the show possible and you benefit from analysis that others simply cannot provide. Today we begin year 7 of this journey. We want you to help us celebratebecause it is only about you. The show is for you. It’s about you and your relationship to what is really going on. 2 Months 'till Christmas--are you ready?

Today marks 2 official months before Christmas.. are you ready?  No worries, the shops are making sure you will be as you see Christmas decor being displayed already.   If you are in the market for a new toy (technically speaking) please remember I am always here to help point you in the right direction, just contact me. I might even be able to save you a few dollars, maybe not from the purchase itself but by getting the right purchase the first time!  So many people rush off and buy what they "think" is going to be what they want, only to find they spend more time setting it up and getting frustrated because of the learning curve that they completely lose interest in the product.  This is hopefully where I can be of some assistance....

When we started the show it began to evolve immediately and has become something unlike any other news presentation show anywhere. On tomorrow’s show there is some odd news being pumped out about Fukushima that may be to keep people from saying to themselves that the odd pollution episode occurring in Harbin, China would be completely mitigated by nuclear power. Greeners will be advocating more wind power. This of course ignores the fact that one reason for the death smog is the lack of wind in the first place.  If you have been to China you will have noticed that it is commonly overcast making solar problematic. Yet nobody discusses nuclear as the Fukushima event stays in the news. Here’s something to think about. This came from a press release. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau estimates students and graduates are currently carrying $1 trillion in total student loan debt! The average debt is $24,301 and 60 percent of students borrow annually to help cover costs. Of those with federal loans more than one in ten is in default. Cheery news. Gak. Remember, Nothing is FREE on the Internet!-Apple Mavericks!

I find myself constantly repeating these words to clients that end up with a real mess of malware/spyware on their system after a very simple CLICK of something that said 'free download'. Remember, most downloads are free, it is the act of installing and using the program where you will find you have to pay for it, either by limited use until you fork out for the 'pro' version, or by simply screwing up the rest of your computer due to the fact that what you just installed is malicious.

Ok so maybe I'm being too harsh on the new operating system Mavericks, released by Apple but seriously it does make you wonder.  Of course I do realize it is brand new and with anything new there will be bugs. No matter how many 'pre-releases' are sent out in to the wild, it isn't until the mass users install and use with whatever strange configurations they have set up.  I had already tweeted my dismay when I went to install on my 2007 Macbook only to find it wouldn't install and this after reading that 2007 devices would work. Blame me for not noticing they were referring to the 2007 iMac and not the Macbook. In any case Mountain Lion works just fine on that device so no worries.  I did however install it on my Macbook Pro and initially had a few freeze ups that were cleared after completing the updates.   It is my job to be thorough and learn from my own mistakes so that I can fix them for my clients and that being said, if you are an Apple user and are wondering if you should be installing this new, FREE operating system, not that Apple has ever charged much for a new O/S release, but I suggest holding off a month or so. You aren't missing anything new and you won't have to deal with all the problems once a few updates have been ironed out.

Removing Dell Backup Tray Icon and Notice (Technical)

This is a note for anyone with a new Dell computer that wishes to remove the annoyance of the backup and other notifications.  Since I am a proponent of backup but not one that comes with the various computers since the next computer you own may not be from that maker and as a result you end up with files in a backup that you have no way of retrieving. Or very difficult. It is best to use a program like Paragon's Hard Drive Manager which has been around for some time and will most likely be for many years to come.

I found this little script file through Spiceworks that does the trick for removing the annoyance, and like the instructions state, you can REM the actual removal of the software in the case you still actually want to save it... (I actually recommend you do for as long as your computer is under the Dell warranty since you will most likely be dealing with them if you have issues during that time)

Windows 8.1 is Out!

If you are a client of mine you have probably already received an email from me with regards to the upgrades, but if you haven't then you can just contact me and I will roll it out for you so that you aren't stuck in the middle and then wondering what to do.

As for what's new. Gizmodo has a pretty good write up about it here.

[Update:]   I have been installing it on a few machines already and I must say, including the download time, it takes longer than a clean install. Which I guess is probably typical since it does have to synchronize the existing windows settings, etc..  the key to any windows project is Patience!

[After the install]:  Microsoft never stops amazing me with their sneaky technique in getting everyone to sign up for an account.  When you went to install Windows 8 initially after the install was completed it would prompt you to sign in to your account and if you didn't have one then you could sign up. You had to look real hard for an alternative way to sign in and that was choosing the 'sign in to local account'.  
Now, the process is even worse because that "local account" option is gone. What they have done is basically give you the option to sign in to the Microsoft account or choose the option that says "You don't have one" and as I have now learned, this is the way to get in without signing in or creating a Microsoft account. By clicking "I don't have one" it then goes through the process of creating one. You simply then click BACK once you are there and you are golden!  Note however, you will still require your Microsoft Account in order to use the store so odds are you already have one if you are upgrading to Windows 8.1.
