No Agenda-Special Announcement

No Agenda Wishes You a Happy July 4th

Producers: Today is the 4th of July Celebration in the USA and for those of you who believe in cosmic timing, today is the day to contribute the 4th of July No Agenda donation of $74.17. Click here.

For the rest of you, the No Agenda Show wishes you a happy holiday where applicable. It is somewhat applicable worldwide since the New York Stock exchange is shut down today and that pretty much affects the entire world.

Why something like closure this even occurs in a 24-hour global environment is somewhat baffling in 2017. In fact, the NYSE closes early on July 3 and remains closed throughout July 4.
Some little known 4th of July History.
The Holiday itself was supposed to be on July 2 when the legal separation of the Thirteen Colonies actually took place. A great quote from John Adams in a letter to his wife, was interesting: “The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival." Ooops!

So No Agenda could have easily pushed the Sunday Show as the true Independence day Show.
Nowadays there is debate over why the dates were changed. Because everything (on the Declaration of Independence) was dated July 4th, July 4th became the day although real Independence Day was July 2. And to further complicate things there is no real evidence that everyone signed on July 4th. It is largely believed that many signed after the 4th when it may have been more convenient.

So our founding document became the model for back-dating agreements. A dubious practiced often used to scam shareholders in large corporations regarding stock options. There is precedent!

The July 4th holiday, per se, began officially in 1870 and turned into a paid federal holiday in 1938 in the middle of the Great Depression. It is one of two holidays that traditionally use fireworks to celebrate, New Year’s being the other.
Bill: Hey, did you hear they made the 4th of July a PAID holiday?
Joe: It's about time.
Whatever the backstory it is an established holiday now associated with the beginning of summer, BBQ, family gatherings, and, in San Francisco at least, fog and chilly nights.

The No Agenda family including the round-table members, artists, contributors, and back office wish everyone an excellent 4th of July the whole world over.

Your hosts,
John & Adam
